Maverick Green Sofa Sessions 2019
After the burning of the red sofa sometime in 2019 a change was coming. While looking for the red sofa i came across a green sofa covered in hay. It was time to move on and the Green Sofa Sessions was born.
Not unlike early recordings of Country musicians playing on a porch or steps, as exemplified by the excellent series by Ken Burns "The History Country Music", Jackson invited musicians to perform live straight to camera using only one overhead microphone.
They are recorded for posterity for the Maverick Festival archive. All music © the musicians all film material © Bill Jackson Foto Films.
This is only the beginning. Below is an introduction by the Maverick Festival Director Paul Spencer and a message from The Crux to all American music fans.

History
In 2014 I had an idea which I put to the Founder and Director of the Maverick Festival of Americana Roots Music, Paul Spencer. Cutting a long story short i found an old red sofa in a barn and the rest is history as they say. Nearly 200 individual singer / song writers and bands have sat on the Red Sofa. Many of the photographs have been used by the musicians for publicity and some have made their way onto album covers. In 2018 I did the sessions on an iPhone when we couldn't get the red sofa out a barn full of hay bales. Examples of sessions between 2014 -2018 which shows the development of the concept.

THE OFFICIAL NICK DRAKE PINK MOON FILM
PINK MOON
Despite only being in the business for five short years, Nick Drake's sombre sound and hauntingly beautiful lyrics still resonnate in music today. He has influenced such artists as Robert Smith, David Sylvian, The Dream Academy, and The Black Crowes and is credited as being one of the most influential English singer-songwriters of the last 50 years.
Having seen the previous work I did while on my residency at Timberyard for the Studio Fabre Hardy Continuum Project, I was contacted by Bryter Music, the estate of Nick Drake and Molly Drake to make a shorter version to accompany Pink Moon from the final album that Nick recorded before his untimely death in 1974. This is the launch film for a new YouTubeNick Drake Channel and is part of a much larger music/film project by Bryter Music and Blue Raincoat Music.
All the photographs were taken at night at Timberyard in Great Glenham Suffolk as part of my continual residency investigating and documenting the penumbral appearances in the landscape.
