Maverick Green Sofa Sessions 2019
After the burning of the red sofa sometime in 2019 a change was coming. While looking for the red sofa i came across a green sofa covered in hay. It was time to move on and the Green Sofa Sessions was born.
Not unlike early recordings of Country musicians playing on a porch or steps, as exemplified by the excellent series by Ken Burns "The History Country Music", Jackson invited musicians to perform live straight to camera using only one overhead microphone.
They are recorded for posterity for the Maverick Festival archive. All music © the musicians all film material © Bill Jackson Foto Films.
This is only the beginning. Below is an introduction by the Maverick Festival Director Paul Spencer and a message from The Crux to all American music fans.

Maverick Green Sofa Sessions
History
In 2014 I had an idea which I put to the Founder and Director of the Maverick Festival of Americana Roots Music, Paul Spencer. Cutting a long story short i found an old red sofa in a barn and the rest is history as they say. Nearly 200 individual singer / song writers and bands have sat on the Red Sofa. Many of the photographs have been used by the musicians for publicity and some have made their way onto album covers. In 2018 I did the sessions on an iPhone when we couldn't get the red sofa out a barn full of hay bales. Examples of sessions between 2014 -2018 which shows the development of the concept.

Journey Of The Skin Man
My interests in maps and cartography goes back to childhood. A large Phillips Map Of The World hung in my bedroom. I used to look at exotic places like Patagonia and Terra Del Fuego and planned in my mind to go there one day and other fascinating places. Growing up in two distinct cultures at the time enabled my itchy feet to walk. It was the travelling I later undertook that became the basis for Skin Man, who in a way is me. The man devoid of skin who travels and through knowledge and experience he becomes fully fledged. Why he is travelling and what he is searching for is an old quest undertaken by many from early Pilgrims to modern explorers seeking to understand who we are and where we have been so that we can begin understand where are going. Here are some stills from the series. It later became a HyperCard stack.
To under stand the concept of HyperCard, think of a roller deck of cards where you can enter and leave at any point. Complex structures could easily lose the designer hyperspace if they didn't chart or map the contents and links.
HyperCard was an application software and a programming tool for Apple Macintosh computers. It is among the first successful hypermedia systems before the World Wide Web. It combined database abilities with a graphical, flexible, user-modifiable interface. HyperCard also features HyperTalk, a programming language for manipulating data and the user interface. HyperCard was originally released in 1987 for $49.95 and was included for free with all new Macs sold then. It was withdrawn from sale in March 2004 after its final update in 1998. HyperCard ran in the Classic Environment, but was not ported to Mac OS X. (source Wikipedia)
